Japanese Engine Imports
can i sorn a vehicle that has been clamped and get the surety back?
car was clamped, paid the 100 deposit, and 160 surety, they say you can get the 160 surety back if you tax and mot it within 14 days but the reason it wasn’t moved was because the engine is cracked. it’s a japanese import and we can’t get the work done locally in 14 days. If we put it in our friend’s barn and sorn it can we get the surety back since it’s offroad now???
hmm in normal circumstances i would say pay for six months tax, get the £160 back then send the tax back and apply for a refund and SORN it legally , you will lose out on the first months tax because they only refund for each full month not used..so if you tax it for august you will get september onwards refunded for each month not used…
However not sure how you will get around the MOT bit i am afraid….so i will guess you will lose the £160…..just make sure you sorn it now to avoid them asking for the tax..each year…you need to declare it off the road even if its now in your friends barn to avoid them chasing you for future tax.
